The good folks of TableTopNorth are seeking (and providing) a whole lot of gaming fun this weekend at Q-Con, the annual convention of the QUB Dragonslayers. The convention is being held in the Students' Union from Friday 26th through to Sunday 28th June. TTNers are running the Call of Cthulhu Competition, a First World War scenario called Entrenched Evil, written by Colin Dunlop. TTN participation games include Space Hulk, Fuzzy Heroes, the 3D Dungeon, a 2nd World War Cthulhu, Vampire, Cyperpunk and Dark Heresy, in addition to a boardgames table where you can chill out, play a few games and have a chat. Just in case everyone is a little gamed out after the weekend, TTN will be taking a break on Monday, but will be back in action on Monday 6th July, with a special open night. Go to http://www.q-con.org.uk/ for more information on Q-Con 16. |

Saturday 4th April 9am - 5pm In search of fame, glory and riches you have returned to the strange and forbidden island which is an enigma looking to be solved. On the island, you and your teammates must face grave danger whilst fighting for survival against the island's strange inhabitants which seemingly come from the past, present and future. Ultimately you must discover how to escape from the Island of the Lost. Return to the Island of the Lost is a one day wargame, where teams of players explore the strange island, battle threats, claim & control territory and then hopefully construct a machine to escape the dreaded island. Each team is made up of a group four of adventuring parties with each player controlling a single party which consists of a single personality and several warriors. The game will be using the very simple Song of Blades and Heroes rules for its many battles. Return to the Island of the Lost will take place on Saturday 4th April at the Belfast Boatclub, doors open at 9am with the game starting at 10am and finishing at 5pm. The cost of the day will be £6 per person. For more details, please visit this Forum thread. |

Saturday 9th May 10.00am - 5.00pm Join us in the Belfast Boatclub for a special war-gaming event. All equipment will be supplied and the rules are quick and easy to use, so no previous knowledge or war-gaming experience is required. Que Son Valley, The Republic of Vietnam, 1965 Following the successful “We’re the good guys” campaign run by our colonial allies the Australians in the Lower Putnang Delta, the Pentagon has ordered the USMC to adopt this policy in the Que Son Valley. This is viewed by the Pentagon as an exciting new strategy to totally defeat the VC and bring the troops home by Christmas. This campaign will encourage the local population to support the forces of right and force the VC into the open where they can be dealt with severe prejudice. The pentagon enlisted the support of the Australians and Captain D. Wanger & Master-Sergeant R. Weiler, formerly of the French Foreign Legion, veterans of much counter-insurgency fighting in the region as consultants. In this joint operation the mighty forces of the USMC, and their brothers in the Royal Australian Army and the Army of Vietnam Republic with inflict a heavy defeat on the evil RPB’s forces of the axis of communism! |

Big Game X and the Niall Noigiallach TTN Open: 8th-9th November
TableTopNorth are proud to announce not one but two premier wargaming events for your winter calendar! Join us in the Belfast Boatclub on Saturday 8th November for the tenth "Big Game", and on Sunday 9th for the return of the Niall Noigiallach TTN Open. Doors open both days at 9am and the events will run until 5pm. The recurring Big Game has become a TableTopNorth favourite with its popular blend of tactical and strategic game play, using streamlined strategic rules on a large world map. The Hordes of the Things rules will be used to play out the many battles between the peoples of the Five Nations as they seek to reforge the Crown of Kings and gain victory over their enemies, or destroy the crown and return the Five Kingdoms to peaceful co-existense. All wargaming equipment will be provided for this game, and previous experience of the rules (or of wargaming!) is not required. Contact details and further information can be found on the HoTT Big Game Forum thread. The Niall Noigiallach TTN Open does require participants to bring their own equipment. This year the format will be three rounds of Field of Glory 400 and armies must be chosen from Army List Book 2, Storm of Arrows. Army lists should be submitted before 1st November to the list checker, George Kingston. Contact details and further information can be found on the Niall Noigiallach TTN Open Forum thread. Participants in both events will be asked to make a donation to room costs. Everyone is welcome, you do not have to be a TTN member to play, and if you are just interested in finding out more about the club, this is also a good opportunity to come along. |

It's time for Mecon 11, Northern Ireland's premier science fiction and fantasy convention, being held this year in the Student Union at Queen's University, Belfast. The prolific author Charles Stross is this year's Guest of Honour. His work ranges from space opera (Singularity Sky, Iron Sunrise, Saturn's Children), Cthulhu/British spy thriller cross overs of The Laundry series (The Atrocity Archives, The Jennifer Mourge), the parallel world crossing fantasy of The Merchant Princes (The Family Trade, The Hidden Family, The Clan Corporate), post-cyberpunk/singularity (Accelerando, Glasshouse) and the recent Hugo nominated Halting State (set in 2012, about a bank job that was performed on a bank in an MMORPG by an army of Orcs). |
